I, Shogo Kuniba, President of the Seishin-kan International Combined Martial Arts Federation and Headmaster of the Okinawa Karate-do Motobu-Faction of Shito-ryu officalize the following regarding Albert C. Church (Kanda Takashi), Jr., Soke of the Japan Ancient Martial Ways (jujutsu-kenpo) Kamishin (Karate-do Jutsu).

In the position of organization President, I bestow upon him permission/license to teach his style.  As an official/officer, in my name and under the name of the Seishinkan International Combined Martial Arts Federation, to him the below [named] Church soke, I have ?? [note: maybe "reviewed/gone over"] his Menkyo-jo [license of full proficiency] and give him authorization.

This license bestows unto Albert C. Church [Kanda Takashi], Jr., this international authorization and accordingly, below I [affix?] my name and to him ....[??] bestow as Japanese Martial Arts International Instructor.  I officially [appoint] Albert C. Church, Jr. as the only person who holds a Seishinkan Ancient Martial Ways License/approal/permission.

前略 dispensing with the preliminaries [common heading when not adding the typical "greetings of the season," etc. small talk]

聖心館国際総合武道連盟米国代表者を私が任命致しました件につきました。米国黒帯雑誌に若干の混同が有る様にうかがいましたので。 比々に聖心館国際総合武道連盟に関する実を＊説明情申し上げます。

Regarding the fact that I appointed the Seishinkan International Comprehensive Martial Arts Federation representative.  I have heard there is some confusion within the United States Black Belt Magazine because of this, in this letter,  I would like to offer an explaination about the actual situation about the Seishinkan International Martial Arts Federation.

1. 私は聖心館国際総合武道連盟の此の地域での米国代表者として アルバート・シイ・チャーチ・ジュニア博士 (南カロライナ・チャールストン・ハイツ・ルイーズドライブ、62・米国 ..... 電話 .... ) を公式に任命致しました。

I have officially appointed Albert C. Church, Jr. PhD (South Carolina, Charleston Heights .... ) in this particular region as the Rrepresentative of the Seishinkan International Combined Martial Arts Federation.

2. 団体名。 日本古武道連盟米国支部は聖心館国際総合武道連盟。 日本武道聖心館の正式な支部であります。それ故日本の本部とも協力しあって居る事は無論のこと。チャーチ 博士及び日本古武道連盟米国支部に属するすべての戦術道場や組織は相互に提携して居ります。

Corporate name．The US chapter of Japan Kobudo Federation is the official branch of the Seishinkan International Comprehensive Martial Arts Federation - Japan Budo Seishinkan.  For this reason, it is needless to say that the US chapter cooperates with the Japan Headquarters. All the combat arts dojo and/or organizations which belong to Dr. Church and the US chapter of Japan Kobudo Federation  are mutually affiliated.

3.  日本古武道連盟米国支部とチﾔーチ会長は聖心館の宗家の下にあらゆる米国内での柔術家の指導を方針とし柔術をより発展させて下さいました。小生はチャーチ 博士に連盟の会員の選考とあらゆる柔術の流儀を研究し熟練する様にお願い致して居ります。当初会員達が正しって柔術を練習出来るか心配して居りましたがその意義においってチャーチ会長はもっとも信頼出来る方であることが判明致しました。

Under the Seishinkan Soke, the Nippon Kobudo Renmei US Branch and Chairman Church further developed jujutsu as a policy of guiding (teaching) jujutsu-ka (students) within the United States. I asked Dr. Church to examine and select federation members and to reserach/study all sorts jujutsu styles and become skillful [skilled craftsman].  In the beginning I was concerned about whether or not the members could practice proper jujutsu, however in that respect, it was revealed that Chairman Church was a most reliable person.

4.小生は柔術家として偉大な才能をお持ちのアルバート・シイ・チャーチ会長に昭和１４年１１月米国地区での日本古武道神心流宗家の称号を贈りました。古武道は古来戦術で神心流は神から授かった心の形を表かします。又チャーチ会長は神心流神道拳柔術の宗家でもあります。

I presented the title of Nippon Kobudo Kamishin Ryu soke -- within the US region -- to Albert Church who has a great talent as a jujutsu practitioner in November of Showa 43rd [1968]. Kobudo is an ancient combat art; Kamishin Ryu exemplifies the form of heart/mind which was endowed by God. Additonally, Chairman Church is the soke of Kamishin Ryu Shindo Ken[po]-Jujutsu.

5. チャーチ会長には下記の様免許状及び証明書が与えられて居ります。

(1) 日本聖心館柔術  師範 ６段

(2) 日本聖心館柔道  師範 ６段

(会長は日本聖心館柔術並びに柔道の全米国道場の代表者)

(3) 日本柔術八弧流柔術   師範  ３段

(会長は奥山龍空宗家より八弧流2段の特別免許状を贈るれる)

[Note: Kuniba misspells "Hakkoryu" and "Ryuho.” Hakkoryu should be 八光流 and Ryuho should be 龍峰]

(4) その他ロドに・サチャナスキー琉球珠考流柔術家米国宗家より師範・8段。バン・ザントウイジ  ポーランド・ジー・エル・エム より体術8段。ハレイー・オルセン教授 ペンシルバニア米国柔術連盟より光生流柔術8段。

(5)又日本空手道の宗家である私より空手道並び拳歩の免状と証明証を与えて居ります。

Chairman Church is given Menkyo-jo [licenses] and Shomei-sho [certificates] described below.

(1) Nippon Seishinkan Jujutsu: Shihan 6th dan

(2) Nippon Seishinkan Judo: Shihan 6th dan (Chairman Church is the representative of Nippon Seishinkan Jujutsu as well as Judo, covering the entire US dojos.)

(3) Nippon Jujutsu Hakkoryu Jujutsu: Shihan 3rd dan. (Chairman Church was also presented with a special menjo [license/certificate/diploma] of Hakkoryu 2nd dan by Soke Okuyama Ryuho.]

(4)  Additionally, Chairman Church was presented the following:

·     From Rodney Sacharnoski: Shihan 8th dan in Ryukyu Jukoryu

·     From Van Zantwizi Poland GLM: 8th dan in Taijutsu

·     From Professor Harry Olsen Pennsylvania US JujutsuFederation: Kosei Ryu Jujutsu 8th Dan

(5) I, as the Japan Karate-do soke, gave him menjo [license] and shomesho [certificate] in Karate-do and Kenpo. [Note: Kuniba misspells Kenpo as 拳歩 instead of the proper拳法.]

アルバート・シイ・チャーチ会長は日本古武道術の大変良き支持者であり私先日本人も非常に尊敬致して居ります。若し貴殿が米国日本聖心館代表者であるチャーチ会長に御連絡下されば氏は喜んで古武道の免許状及び証明書を御覧に入れる外種々とご説明申し上げるで御座いましよう。

CChairman Albert C. Church is a very good supporter of Nippon Kobudo techniques,  we as Japanese also respect him very much.  If you contact Mr. Church who is the US representative of the Seishinkan etc., he will be happy to show his licenses and certificates; in addition to that he will provide a variety of explanations [of them].
